Evolution of the John Deere Corporation
OK, John Deere tractors aren’t technically automobiles, but they represent a large portion of automotive/vehicular sales in the United States. As I often like to do, I dug into their history to see what their roots were and came across some interesting facts. I hope you guys enjoy my findings. They truly went from nothing to something and are a major force in the agricultural and gardening industries today.
The John Deere Corporation that was conceived in 1837 can be aptly termed as the pioneers in farming products. Apart from farming equipments, they also manufacture construction heavy machinery and forestry equipments. All the products have been made available worldwide with the help of dealers in various countries. In here we will still to the agricultural products specifically tractors manufactured by John Deere Corporation.
Year 1892 marked the first tractor to be manufactured in John Deere’s Corporation. It was named Waterloo Boy. In fact such a tractor came into existence after John Deere purchased a firm named Waterloo Gasoline Engine Company.
R Tractor succeeded this in 1914. By 1917 another model named N was brought forth. The differences between the R and N series were in the transmission systems. The Deere Corporation trackers were easily distinguishable. They were always marketed with a mixture of dark green and bright yellow colors. Back then farmers preferred horses and oxen than the expensive tractors. Hence business was not progressing as usual for the John Deere Corporation. By 1923 another tractor termed Model D was born in the stables of John Deere. This tractor didn’t make much business as it has steel wheels and it took two years for them to realize this mistake and rectify it.
C model tractor was also implemented in the following years; this tractor had a three-speed transmission. Later the C model was renamed to GP (General Purpose). By 1934 Model A came into existence. It had four speed transmissions and was available in 8 different models. Its successor Model B also had 8 variations. The G Model tractor followed this in 1937. A modified version of the same, GM M standing for modernized was also realized in the following year. This version included a 6-gear transmission. By 1938 John Deere Corporation roped in designers and started customizing the already available models, without building newer models.
There was also a surge in business as more and more farmers were buying tractors for their fields and discarding horses. Besides more competitors were also emerging into the field namely Ford and Farmhall. So Deere Corporation started building smaller tractors with slightly underpowered engines. These were easier to handle and maintain. The first diesel tractor Model R was conceived in 1949 after much research. Fuel efficiency was its credibility and was an instant success. It was also then that Deere Corporation switched to four and six cylinder engines instead of the conventional 2 cylinder engines. The tractors’ bhp was always in the range of 20 to 70.
By 2007 Deere Corporation started producing more than 30 tractors in a year. Tractors with more than 100bhp were introduced this year. Deere Corporation’s tractors are known for their versatility. Even after a period of 200 years the tractors being the favorite in the agricultural sector is the hallmark of their products. Deere Corporation although suffering from a few set backs every now and then, still continues to surge forward into the future.

Evolution of the Mini Cooper
Mini Cooper officially announced that it is releasing an electric model! I thought this would be a good time to reflect on how far the car has come from its British origins.

Oil crisis was on its peak in Britain at that time. Because of this most of the vehicles back then had engine capacities less than 700cc. Inspite of having a lower capacity engine, they failed to perform and deliver the necessary punch.
One of the unique features of Mini Cooper was that the engine was mounted sideways in between the front wheels. This helped in creating more space for passengers and the weight of the engine also ensured that car was stable when taking turns. The car was actually termed Mini, but later with the partnership with John Cooper it was termed Mini Cooper. John Cooper had modified the original engine and had added a turbo-charger.
